K-Pop Audition Application Checklist: Everything You Need to Submit
Getting your audition application rejected before anyone watches your performance tape is more common than most aspiring trainees expect. Agencies receive large volumes of submissions and incomplete or incorrectly formatted applications are filtered out before any evaluation happens. This checklist helps you make sure your submission is complete and correctly formatted before you send it.
Requirements vary by agency — always read the specific guidelines for the agency you're applying to. What follows is a synthesis of requirements common across major agencies based on their publicly available audition guidelines.
Profile Information (required by all major agencies)
- Full legal name (and romanized spelling for international applicants)
- Date of birth
- Country and city of residence
- Contact information — email is primary; some agencies require a phone number
- Height and weight — some agencies request this; provide accurately
- Training history — years and types of training (dance, vocal, instrument)
- Relevant experience — competitions, performances, prior training programs
- Known languages
Photo Requirements
Profile photos are submitted alongside application materials. Common requirements:
- Full body photo: Natural standing pose, recent (within 3 months), no filters, neutral clothing
- Face/headshot photo: Front-facing, hair pulled back or to show face clearly, recent
- File format: JPG or PNG, typically minimum 1MB to ensure sufficient resolution for printing/zoom review
- No professional retouching: Several agencies explicitly request unretouched photos. Filters and heavy editing are grounds for disqualification
Common photo mistakes: low resolution images, photos with filters, group photos where you're cropped in, photos that are more than 6 months old.
Video Content Requirements
Video is the core of an audition submission. Standard requirements:
Self-introduction video
- Duration: typically 30–60 seconds
- Content: name, age, country, training background, why you're auditioning
- Format: clear audio, well-lit, stable camera, full face visible
Performance video(s)
- Duration: typically 1–3 minutes per clip. Most agencies ask for one primary performance video; some accept additional supplementary clips
- Dance content: full body in frame, stable camera, original choreography or cover (check agency preference)
- Vocal content: a cappella or with minimal backing track, waist-up or full body in frame, clean audio quality
- Format: MP4 is most widely accepted. Some agencies specify resolution (typically 720p or 1080p minimum)
- No heavy editing: cuts, overlaid text, or elaborate production are typically discouraged — agencies want to see you perform, not your video production
Additional content (agency-specific)
Some agencies request optional additional materials: rap performance, instrument playing, freestyle dancing, or a second song showing range. Only submit what's requested — unsolicited additional materials are not evaluated and may signal that you didn't read the guidelines.
File Submission Format
Major agencies now use online portals for international submissions. Common platform issues:
- File size limits: Portals typically have per-file limits (100MB–500MB depending on agency). Compress video to fit within the limit without sacrificing resolution quality.
- Upload reliability: Upload on a stable internet connection. Large video files on unstable connections frequently fail mid-upload and may not notify you of the failure.
- Confirmation emails: Most portals send a submission confirmation email. If you don't receive one within 24 hours, verify that your submission went through.
- File naming: Some agencies specify file naming conventions. Follow them exactly.
Pre-Submission Checklist
Before you hit submit:
- [ ] All required profile fields are complete and accurate
- [ ] Profile photos meet the agency's specific requirements (size, format, recency, no filters)
- [ ] Self-introduction video is under the specified time limit and clearly audible
- [ ] Performance video shows your full body in good lighting throughout
- [ ] All files are in the specified format and under the specified size limits
- [ ] Application has been reviewed for errors (name spelling, contact information)
- [ ] You've read the full submission guidelines for this specific agency
- [ ] A confirmation method is in place (checking for confirmation email after submission)
The application package gets your tape in front of evaluators. What happens after that depends entirely on your performance level. Make sure your current level justifies the submission before investing time in assembling the application.
