Keens Academy Guide

What Is Keens Academy?

What Is Keens Academy?

Keens Academy is the global education platform of Keens, designed to develop performance-based talent through structured training, feedback, and long-term growth systems.

The academy’s curriculum is designed by Jae Shim, a K-POP performance director with over 25 years of experience at SM Entertainment, where he led performance direction and training across multiple generations of K-POP artists.

Rather than focusing on short-term choreography or trend-driven dance, Keens Academy approaches training as a long-term process — helping students build the physical, rhythmic, and expressive foundations required to grow as performers.

Keens Academy within the Keens system

Keens Academy sits at the foundation of the broader Keens ecosystem, which spans education, creative production, and talent development.

Within this system:

  • Keens Academy functions as the online training and education layer

  • Keens Seoul operates as the offline studio and in-person learning space

  • Keens takes on KPOP-related projects related to training and performing

This structure allows Keens to focus not only on teaching skills, but on developing talent over time, across different environments and stages.

What makes Keens Academy different

Keens Academy is built around a few core principles that reflect real-world K-POP training practices.

Performance-first training

Training is designed around how movement actually appears on stage — not just how it looks in isolation. Students learn how rhythm, control, intention, and timing translate into performance, presence, and audience impact.

This approach reflects the way performance is evaluated in professional K-POP environments.

Curriculum based on real K-POP idol training

The academy’s curriculum is structured using frameworks drawn from actual K-POP idol training systems, adapted for students at different stages.

Rather than simplified routines or trending choreos, students are introduced to:

  • rhythm systems used in performance training

  • movement control and coordination

  • step-based and combination-based drills

These elements form the foundation of professional performance preparation.

Foundations before complexity

Instead of rushing into difficult choreography, Keens Academy emphasizes:

  • rhythm understanding

  • basic movement mechanics

  • coordination and body control

By strengthening fundamentals first, students are able to progress faster and more confidently as training becomes more complex.

Trainers active in the K-POP field

Classes are led by trainers who are currently training, performing, and working with K-POP artists, ensuring that instruction reflects current performance standards rather than outdated methods.

This keeps training aligned with how performance is practiced and evaluated today.

Feedback as part of learning

Regular feedback — through classes, assignments, and evaluations — helps students understand what to improve and why, rather than practicing blindly.

Feedback is treated as a core part of the learning process, not an afterthought.

Long-term growth over short-term results

Keens Academy is designed for sustained development. The goal is not a single performance or viral moment, but steady improvement that compounds month after month.

Who Keens Academy is for

Keens Academy is suited for:

  • Students beginning structured dance or performance training

  • Learners who want to strengthen fundamentals like rhythm and control

  • Aspiring performers seeking a more systematic, professional approach

  • Parents looking for an environment focused on discipline, progress, and feedback rather than trends alone

Programs are structured to support different stages of development, from foundational learning to more advanced performance readiness.

Keens Academy today

Today, Keens Academy operates through both offline and online formats, reaching students in Korea and internationally.

Training programs continue to evolve as Keens expands into new creative and educational initiatives, while maintaining a consistent focus on performance quality and talent development.
